Working in collaboration with lead campaign agencies, we were charged with supporting campaign efforts where the Silicon Valley Leadership Group played a critical role in numerous housing and transportation campaigns affecting the Bay Area for five campaigns. We provided on-the-ground and communication support to move campaign messaging and educate the public particularly in Santa Clara County.
We provided communications, press conference and media relations support to four successful measure and proposition campaigns in three years. Support included but was not limited to: planning editorial meetings, placing editorials and letters to the editor, writing and posting blogs, writing releases, advisories, emails and newsletters. In addition we were occasionally tasked with logistical planning for press conferences and augmenting the digital strategy by promoting educational posting on propositions and measures.
Supported Propositions 1 – the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act through coordination of key Santa Clara County press conferences, press releases, social media and trade association member communication and advocacy. Prop. 1 authorizes $4 billion in bonds to build and provide affordable housing for veterans, working families, people with disabilities, Californians experiencing homelessness and many others.
Proposition 6 would have repealed the recent increase in the gas tax and other fuel and car fees and require voter approval for all transportation-related tax increases in the future.
Regional Measure 3, the Bay Area’s first 9-County transportation campaign, authorized toll increases on seven state-owned Bay Area bridges, raising an estimated $4.45 billion over 25 years for transit projects, highway improvements and better bicycle and pedestrian access.
Measure B was a 30-year, half-cent countywide sales tax to enhance transit, highways, expressways and active transportation (bicycles, pedestrians and complete streets. Measure B projections include $1.2 Billion for local roads, up to $1.5 Billion for BART to San Jose, $250 million for bike and pedestrian improvements, over $1 Billion of capital improvements to help improve Caltrain, and much more.
